Installing and Upgrading OpenVMS
Concepts
OpenVMS is most commonly installed from the distribution CD contained in the distribution kit. Other possibilities include factory installed software (pre-installed operating system) and remote installation services (installation from a remote server). Installing the operating system requires the user to boot the CD from the console to access a menu of options. Upgrading requires booting the same CD. The system manager must work with basic console commands and may have to upgrade the console firmware before an installation or upgrade is possible. This module introduces and discusses the installation and upgrade of OpenVMS.
