| Managing Licenses and Layered Products |
| Concepts |
| OpenVMS and the Layered Products you run require valid registered licenses. OpenVMS provides a License Management Facility (LMF) and associated utilities, commands, and databases to assist the system manager in managing licenses for single systems and clusters.
A system manager must learn to use these flexible tools and must also understand the legal constraints of the license agreements purchased for a system. The OpenVMS License Management Utility Manual documents the tools, the types of licenses, and the constraints on their use.
Layered Products provided with OpenVMS cannot be accessed until a license has been registered and loaded. Many products cannot be installed until the license is in place. |
