Managing Processes
Concepts
OpenVMS, like any operating system, exists to enable programs to run. A program that is executing requires resources and a secure operating environment. These elements taken together constitute the implementation of a process. OpenVMS allows processes to create subprocesses; however, activating a program image does not automatically create a subprocess. The notion of process scheduling is central to understanding many of the implementation features of OpenVMS. This module discusses process characteristics on OpenVMS, the types of processes OpenVMS supports, and common process management tasks.
