Managing Queues
Concepts
Two particular queuing mechanisms engage system managers on almost every OpenVMS system: batch (processing) queues and print queues. OpenVMS provides native support for managing queues on a stand-alone system and across a cluster. One or more queue manager processes oversee the queue functions. The system manager provides a different level of queue management that includes defining queues and interceding in queue operations by issuing DCL commands. OpenVMS supports printing files to local, remote and network printers. Batch queues permit users to submit DCL procedures to run either immediately or at a scheduled time.
