| Using the SYSMAN Utility |
| Concepts |
The SYSMAN Utility gathers a number of important OpenVMS management tasks under a single command interface. SYSMAN includes tools, such as the Automatic Login Facility (ALF), and functionality from other utilities, such as the Diskquota and License Management utilities. Other functions include management of system parameters (formerly called SYSGEN parameters), management of specific I/O-related functions, and, on Alpha systems, management of the Reserved Memory Register. Importantly, through SYSMAN, the system manager can execute DCL commands and command procedures, as well as AUTHORIZE, AUTOGEN and other utilities on remote nodes and cluster nodes. In an OpenVMS Cluster environment, SYSMAN plays a major role in making a cluster a single management environment. SYSMAN commands can affect an entire cluster or selected nodes in a cluster. In addition, from a single, properly networked node or a node on a local cluster, the system manager can manage a remote cluster and its nodes. SYSMAN uses DECnet to communicate between nodes. |
| Objectives |
- Identify system data files affected by SYSMAN commands
- Create and use SYSMAN initialization files
- Develop and execute SYSMAN command procedures
- Describe functions of SYSMAN commands
- Employ SYSMAN commands to monitor and modify OpenVMS systems, clusters,
and cluster nodes
