Establishing a Performance Baseline
Concepts
Performance problems can result from many causes and can be very difficult to analyze. The two most important elements in approaching performance issues are the system manager’s knowledge of the workload and a baseline of performance data. OpenVMS provides tools for gathering performance information and for live monitoring of the system’s performance. This module discusses the importance of both approaches and outlines the data to gather for a performance baseline.
Objectives
  • Outline a plan for establishing a performance baseline on OpenVMS
  • Analyze a system's workload
  • Gather baseline data using OpenVMS utilities and commands
Topics
  • Planning a system baseline profile
  • Analyzing the workload
  • Gathering baseline data
    • Accounting utility
    • Monitor utility
    • Availability manager
    • DCL SHOW command
