Tru64 UNIX AdvFS, LSM, and RAID Configuration and Management
This course covers basic storage concepts related to SCSI devices and the use of RAID. The RAID concepts overlap somewhat with Logical Storage Manager (LSM) capabilities. The course covers the installation and use of LSM.

Though the traditional UFS file system appears briefly, the major discussion is of AdvFS, both the basics and advanced concepts, including configuration, tuning, troubleshooting and recovery. The scope of these advanced topics moves the discussion beyond AdvFS to considerations of more general performance and troubleshooting issues.

Who Should Attend
System managers who require more in-depth study of the file systems, including those preparing to take the TruCluster course.

Prerequisites
Completion of the Tru64 UNIX System Administration course or equivalent experience.

Features of this Course
  • Concentrated examination of storage rudiments and intensive focus on the AdvFS file system.
  • Hands-on lab exercises to reinforce the focus on tools and techniques for managing the storage and file system interactions.

Benefits of Attending this Class

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Decide how to use RAID levels with hardware or the LSM software
  • Configure and use Logical Storage Manager
  • Describe the architecture and function of the Virtual File System
  • Set up and configure AdvFS domains and filesets
  • Examine AdvFS structures and metadata
  • Tune and troubleshoot file system problems, especially AdvFS domains and LSM volumes
  • Manage recovery operations for AdvFS domains and LSM configurations
  • Make use of native tools and an assortment of freeware tools
